Digitally Trying Makeup

Source: PSFK, Aug 2011

Japanese beauty retailer Shiseido is using technology to enhance the cosmetics department of its Tokyo store. Small connected displays or ‘cosmetic mirrors’ are placed throughout the first floor of the retail store where customers can scan beauty product barcodes. When scanned, the displays virtually apply a selected product to the customer’s face as it appears on the screen. This allows for quick assessment of different products without the need to remove layers of sampled makeup. These screens also display additional information about scanned products, application suggestions, and beauty tips.
